Unfunded Grant Requests
The Education Foundation was not able to fund the following grant requests made for the Spring 2009 Grant Program. We encourage individuals and businesses to take a closer look at these requests. Is there one you would be interested in fully or partially funding directly? If so, terrific! Please contact us. We will gladly help you through the process and will publicly recognize your sponsorship on our website.
In order of declining amounts, unfunded grant requests to date are:
- Health and Wellness Technology Grant - $10,940
- For grades 3-5 at TES
- Utilize technology as a health resource and data analysis tool, while also learning and practicing the MA Comprehensive Health Frameworks Core Concepts of health literacy, self-management, and promotion.
- Students will learn to organize and analyze both personal health information and health resources, in order to set appropriate health goals. Students will keep an electronic journal intended to provide students with the opportunity to examine progress and set goals.
- Cost covers the purchase of 30 ASUS Mini Computers, 1 wireless router, 1 mobile laptop charging station, and 1 LCD projector.
- Early Childhood Gross Motor Structures - $4,544
- To be used at TES
- Grant covers materials to build appropriate play structures in order to develop gross motor skills and positive social interactions.
- Wellness Textbook Program - $4,500
- To be used by TMS, grades 7 and 8
- Grant covers the cost of textbooks for a health curriculum for grade 7 and 8 with materials and supplies to start the program.
- This grant can be partially funded; any amount would benefit the implementation of a health curriculum at TMS.
- Special Education Tablet Pilot -$4,280
- To be used district-wide
- This grant could be partially funded
- Special education leadership team will pilot the use of tablet computers in a variety of special education contexts, including assessments and instruction.
- Tablet computer functions like a traditional laptop computer except user writes directly on the screen with an electronic stylus, rather than using a keyboard. This solution provides non-disruptive, low-profile in the classroom and the ability to accomodate learners who struggle with traditional keyboard inputs.
- Heartsaver CPR and First Aid Grant - $2,664
- To be used at THS
- Grant will allow high school students to learn crucial life-saving skills by becoming CPR and First Aid certified. Students will learn CPR (adult, child, infant), use of AED (Defibrillator) and First Aid according to the American Heart Association guidelines.
- Digital Cameras and I Photo Upgrade - $2,400
- To be used by TES
- Digital camera upgrade to enhance parent communication, create literacy activities, and provide ESL (English as a Second Language) and Special Education Students with communication materials.
- Grant could be partially funded
- TES Multi-Media Projection System - $1,100
- To be used at TES, by all students (1,000+)
- TES desires a permanently mounted ready-to-use multimedia system for students, teachers, professional development, and community programs. This system will be mounted in the upstairs library and will seamlessly interact with a smartboard, in the future.
- Art and Character Education - $1,040
- To be used by TMS, 6th grade
- Professional puppet performance for 6th graders performed by Crabgrass Puppet Theater (NY). Coordinates with 6th grade learning unit about acceptance and tolerance for all individuals; directly relates to classroom activities done through guidance and art.
- Expanding the World of Digital Photography -- $1,000
- To be used THS by students and teachers involved in the yearbook, newsletter, science lab, and school events.
- This grant will be used to expand the Digital Photography program at THS
- A significant number of students go on to college in Media and Graphic Design and digital photography in high school helps prepare them.
- Grant covers new equipment (Nikon Camera D60 Camera Package with two VR zoom lenses) which would allow students to utilize an advanced camera with more manual features.
- Choice Literacy Site License - $790
- To be used at TES by literacy teachers
- Grant purchases site licenses. Site provides access to over 300 site features including video examples of best literacy practices, themed booklists, and articles from top authors in the field, to name a few.
