2010 Grant Awards
Congratulations to our 2010 Grant Recipients!
Thank you to the many teachers who took the time to identify items that they feel will enhance, encourage or improve the learning process. The grants awarded this year will bring educational benefits to students in each school and a majority of the 2,000+ students across the Tyngsborough Public School District.
Rebekah Ravgiala: Re-defining "Bio-tech" ($3,400)
Students will use Netbook laptops to prepare biology projects. Students will use Google Docs, prepare a Glog for cell structure and function, collaborate on a macro-molecular slide-show, journal images to make a movie to model DNA replication, and more.
Sara Silva: Traveling Art Exhibit ($500)
Students in the Spanish classes will study a unit on Spanish/French artists and then be able to see some of Picasso's work before creating their own art work.
Patricia Joy: Tumble Books ($400)
Tumblebooks is an online subscription of animated books that reinforce the joy of reading. It can be used by early childhood and elementary students from school and home. This is the second year of this grant. The use of Tumble Books by teachers and parents has grown.
Kelli Weed: Traditional Literature in the Classroom ($500)
Materials for 5th grade teachers to teach the traditional literature framework.
Thomas J. Varnum: English/Journalism Lab ($3,400)
12 Netbooks will complete a computer lab for English and Journalism courses.
Katherine Capistron: Public Art Display of Tyngsborough Students' Artwork ($700)
Community members will be able to view student artwork from across the public schools at a rotating display at Town Hall.
Diana Rogier: 4th Grade Video Projection Mobile System ($734)
Lessons will be brought to life with images displayed by the video projection system.
Cheryl Reault: 2nd Grade Video Projection Mobile System ($734)
The mobile system will enable interactive learning across the 2nd grade classrooms. For example, students will be able to read aloud together as on-line books (Tumblebooks!) are displayed. The system will also allow for more interactive math lessons.
Carolyn Reichard: TES Guidance Class Grant ($1,400)
Now that a T-5 curriculum has been developed for the elementary school, supporting materials will be purchased for each developmental level across the school.
Bill Koczarski: TMS Flip-Cameras ($600)
Available for use by all middle school teachers for use on field trips and classroom projects, these cameras will become an integral part of the computer lab classes where students develop multi-media projects.
Bill Koczarski: Keyboarding Software ($800)
Type to Learn software will be used by 6th graders to help them become proficient computer keyboarders.
Kathy Cook: TES Outdoor Classroom ($300)
Seed money will help a team of teacher and parent volunteers begin implementing their plan for an outdoor learning classroom to be used primarily by the pre-school and kindergarten students.
Irwin Bramsom: SmartBoard for Advanced Mathematics ($3,800)
Interactive whiteboard will be used in AP Statistics, AP Calculus, Honors Algebra and Honors Pre-Calculus classes to make abstract mathematical concepts more visual. The interactive emulator in Texas Instrument's Smart View software will be used to impact students' facility with programming their scientific calculators.
